Cosplayers: Dress for success for the largest purse prize this year

Cosplayers, who dress as their favorite TV, videogame or anime characters, have all the fun. Cosplayers, who spend countless hours perfecting their costumes, also have all the work. Typically, they're rewarded with praise, attention, audience applause and even viral photos of themselves spread across the Internet. Now they'll be rewarded with the gift that matters most to people who spend hundreds of dollars to look authentic: money.

Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), which will run April 25-27, 2014, will be holding the first Crown Championships of Cosplay. And the winners in the five categories (comic books, movies and television, videogames, anime and fantasy) will go on to compete with each other in a walk-off to win a total of $10,000 in cash and prizes.

According to a C2E2 representative,

The C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay will have the largest prize purse among current and active competitions. Additionally, the background and expertise of the judges, as you know, is top-notch and unparalleled in these types of competitions.

Celebrity judges include Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars, as well as the founder of Her Universe, a fashion site for the discerning geek girl, and Yaya Han, cosplayer, craftsperson and model, and one of Syfy's Heroes of Cosplay (which is returning to Syfy for a second season sometime in 2014).

Unlike many cosplay competitions, there are no group costumes allowed, and store-bought costumes are verboten. But this looks like a wonderful opportunity to show the cosplay community that you personally fashioned your own Princess Leia metal bikini.

You have until March 10, 2014, to submit your application. Get to work.
