New Heavenly Sword: The movie trailer shows a badass, sword-wielding Nariko

There’s a brand-new trailer for that Heavenly Sword flick featuring a badass, sword-wielding Nariko, played by Fringe’s Anna Torv.

The CG animated film not only features Anna Torv voicing that flaming-red-haired Nariko, it also features Alfred Molina as King Bohan (he was voiced and mo-capped by Andy Serkis in the original videogame) and Thomas Jane (The Punisher) as Loki.

Heavenly Sword: The Movie is based on the original hit 2007 PlayStation 3 Sony videogame of the same name.

Have a look at the trailer below:

Here's the gist of the story:

Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko (Anna Torv), a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against the invading King Bohan (Alfred Molina) and his army. Once considered the failure of a legendary prophesy, Nariko must wield a sword that was ultimately meant for another. This ancient Heavenly Sword, once belonging to a powerful deity, can never be wielded by a mortal without it slowly but inevitably killing them. For Nariko it is a race against time to avenge her clan before her life is irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword.

There’s no question that Nariko is a truly fascinating and totally awesome heroine -- just the way we like 'em. (You know, like Xena, or Buffy, or Black Widow from the Marvel flicks.)

However, we've got to say that the animation seen in the trailer seems a bit ... old school for 2014. By that we mean that the CG flick's animation doesn't look better than the cutscenes from the 2007 game (which it should). We hope they’ll work out the kinks by the time the movie comes out and that the animation will look smoother and more polished.

Heavenly Sword: The Movie is set to be released sometimes in June of 2014. What do you think of what you've seen so far? Is it a hit or miss for you guys?
