With the third and final entry in the Hobbit trilogy due out tomorrow, and feelings both good and ill abounding for the film adaptation of Tolkien's classic tale, it seems only fair to shine a spotlight on something we can all agree the movies got right -- costumes and practical effects.
Yes, no matter where you fall on the scale of love to loathe when it comes to CGI, we can almost all agree that the weapons, costumes, hair and makeup for all the Middle-earth films were spot-on brilliant, master craftmanship.
And nothing credits someone's hard work quite like truly artful imitation, which is exactly what the creative team for The Hobbit discovered when they were con-bound. Thankfully, the folks at Cosplay Boom were on hand to interview some of the Hobbit visual art team -- Richard Taylor, Lindsey Crummett and Andrew Baker -- as they met with Tolkien's most incredible cosplaying fans.
