DC announces Convergence: A massive, multiverse-spanning crossover event

Two of DC’s biggest comic runs are about to come together, and now the comic company has finally dropped some intel on the epic Convergence.

The new miniseries will be led by a nine-part weekly series penned by veteran TV writer Jeff King (White Collar, Continuum) and will feature several acclaimed artists. DC notes that this should be one of the “most epic and inclusive events” the company has ever constructed as it digs deep into the multiverse with numerous worlds and hundreds of characters.

The event will spin out of the finales of ongoing series The New 52: Future’s End (which features Batman Beyond! -Ed.) and Earth 2: World’s End. According to USA Today, the story follows Brainiac after he’s trapped cities from various timelines and planets that have ended, brought them in domes to a planet outside of time and space, and is now opening them for a great experiment to see what happens when all these folks meet. What could go wrong?

According to DC, the story takes place outside of time and space—on the question mark, just below Earth 29 and above Chaos, on the Map of the Multiverse—and introduces the new villain Telos. USA Today has debuted the first art from the special (which you can check out below) and also chatted with DC co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee about what to expect.

Check out a few excerpts below:

Lee: “What we're really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 5. Convergence is in many ways the most meta epic event we've done.”

DiDio: “Because this involved so much deep lore and fiction from DC Comics, it was great to have someone come in with a fresh set of eyes to look at it and make sure that it's as open and accessible to all fans. Not just the people who have been reading DC throughout the years.”

The series will be published from April-May of 2015. What’s your take on the latest crisis set to strike the multiverse?
