Twin Peaks returns! Showtime orders brand-new, nine-episode season

Awesome cherry pie news for Twin Peaks fans everywhere: Showtime has ordered a limited series continuation to the cult classic TV show.

TVLine reports that Showtime has indeed given the green light to a nine-episode revival of the 1990s cult series from David Lynch and Mark Frost.

The new series will NOT be a reboot (thank you!) but a present-day continuation, much like TNT’s Dallas (which just got canceled, by the way) and the upcoming Heroes Reborn. It'll hit our TV screens sometime in 2016.

We'd heard rumblings of an imminent revival just this past Friday.

Sources reveal that Lynch and Frost are poised to pen all nine episodes, with Lynch sitting in the director's chair for all of them. Both Lynch and Frost confirmed the news early Monday on Twitter, and linked to the following video. Get ready for some chills:

Twin Peaks recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special Blu-ray release titled Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery, which features more than 90 minutes of deleted scenes.

Are you guys excited for Twin Peaks'  return to TV?
