Image of the day: Terrifying sculpture brings classic videogame Doom to gory life

What happens when someone’s healthy obsession with the classic 1993 first-person shooter Doom becomes a bit less healthy? You spend a decade making this terrifying diorama that is guaranteed to cause nightmares.

As The Verge reports, Jason Hite has loved the gory demon-hunting game for much of his life — and in 2004 decided to turn that passion into something tangible after acquiring a Doom action figure. His masterpiece: a massive Doom diorama sculpture, composed of everything from more action figures to urethane resin and circuit boards. It's a terrifying work of art.

The fruit of Hite’s labor is currently on display at the “Roadside Attractions” exhibit at Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica, Calif. It’ll be open to the public on Nov. 8, and is available to purchase for a cool $6,000.
