We finally know who Deadpool's mystery comic-book bride is

Wade Wilson's bride has been revealed at last, but Deadpool's got what looks like a long fight between him and the altar.

Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD for Marvel's main Deadpool series and the digital comic series Deadpool: The Gauntlet

We've known since the beginning of the year that Deadpool's headed for an April wedding, but the only image we had of his bride-to-be was heavily veiled, even as the rest of the Marvel universe gathered around her to celebrate the union. Now, thanks to the ending of Deadpool: The Gauntlet #3, we finally know the face, and name, of the woman who'll call Wade Wilson her husband, and we've never seen the likes of her before.

As The Gauntlet #3 ended, Deadpool was in the midst of battling the Minotaur (yes, the one from Greek mythology) when he managed to make the beast ram a cart carrying a mysterious casket Deadpool had been sent to retrieve by Dracula, because Deadpool works for Dracula now. (I know. Don't you just love comics?) The casket cracked opened and revealed a woman who calls herself Shiklah, Queen of the Undead.

We don't yet know exactly who she is, what she wants, or how she'll end up becoming Deadpool's wife, but Deadpool co-writer Gerry Duggan has confirmed that Shiklah is indeed Wade Wilson's bride. He also revealed that she's not exactly human, though the casket might have already given that away.

"She's a classic succubus; the monsters that would fly in windows and drain men of their vitality and so forth," Duggan said. "We put a couple of twists on her and Reilly Brown did a really wonderful job with a couple of different drawings. I don't want to spoil a surprise, but there is more to her than meets the eye. You'll see a different side to her as the story progresses.

"She comes from a long line of monsters. She's monster royalty and she was hidden away for a long time and forgotten about. The reasons for that will be revealed."

The Deadpool/Shiklah love story has only just begun, but there are already major complications to this relationship. The biggest one: Shiklah was already supposed to marry Dracula, and when Deadpool steps in the middle of that nuptial arrangement, Dracula becomes "angrier than any Deadpool villain ever before," according to Duggan.

"Dracula deploys all of his forces, and he has some non-traditional forces as well," Duggan said. "Then there are some other interested parties. Any fight like this might draw some other spectators."

So Deadpool's found his bride, but he's got a long way to go until the April wedding, and Dracula's not the only one standing in his way. To find out how all this plays out, check out Deadpool: The Gauntlet and Deadpool, and keep an eye out for the Deadpool wedding issue in April.
