Excelsior! Forbes names Stan Lee to Top 10 most influential celebs of 2014

He might be in his early 90s, but comic legend Stan Lee has never been more influential. Just ask Forbes, which ranked the Marvel alum alongside heavyweights like George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

The financial publication ranked Stan Lee at No. 9 on its list of most influential celebrities, largely due to his critical role in creating eventual box-office heavyweights like the X-Men, Iron Man, The Avengers, Spider-Man and a laundry list of other famed comic characters. Without his work all those decades ago, the movie landscape would look very different today.

Of course, in addition to creating all those masked heroes, he’s also popped up on the big screen more than a few times to help ‘em along. As Forbes puts it: “Maybe it's all those cameos in Marvel movies. Lee doesn't usually show up on this list but the comic creator is responsible for the characters in some of the biggest movies in recent years.”

Outside of Stan Lee, the rest of the list isn’t much of a surprise. Steven Spielberg leads the charge at No. 1, with his upcoming Halle Berry sci-fi series Extant expected to generate big buzz this year. After being relatively quiet in recent years, George Lucas skyrocketed to No. 3 on the heels of all those new Star Wars projects.

The rest of the spots are rounded out by mainstream celebs Oprah Winfrey, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Barbara Walters and Bono. Not bad company, Stan. Not bad at all.
