Which 2013 genre films got the 'honor' of a Golden Razzie nomination?

It's award season, and that means it's time to honor the worst movies right along with the best.

For 34 years now, the Golden Raspberry Awards have been honoring the worst films, actors, directors and scripts from the year in cinema. Not surprisingly, the very worst in genre cinema always has a prominent place on the Razzie nominations list, and recent big genre "winners" include The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 last year, The Last Airbender in 2010 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in 2009. Today the nominations for the 2013 Golden Raspberry Awards were revealed, and you can probably guess which genre films got the most, um ... love.

Six different genre films with sci-fi, fantasy or horror flavor earned Razzie noms this year, but the genre flicks with the most nominations were easily After Earth, with six, and The Lone Ranger, with five. Both films were absolutely blasted by critics upon their release, and their box-office haul wasn't too impressive either, so it's no surprise to see them among the most nominated flicks. The top nominations earner, in case you were wondering, was Grown-Ups 2, with eight.

After Earth, the sci-fi adventure starring Will Smith and his son, Jaden, earned nominations for Worst Picture; Worst Director for M. Night Shyamalan; Worst Actor for Jaden Smith; Worst Supporting Actor for Will Smith; Worst Screen Combo for the Smiths; and Worst Screenplay for Shyamalan, Gary Whitta and Will Smith, who had a story credit on the film. The Lone Ranger also snagged Worst Picture; Worst Director for Gore Verbinski; Worst Actor for Johnny Depp; and Worst Screenplay for Ted Elliott; Justin Haythe and Terry Rossio, and also nabbed a spot in the category of Worst Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.

Other acting nominations for genre films include a Worst Supporting Actress nomination for Lady Gaga in Machete Kills; a Worst Supporting Actress nomination for Lindsay Lohan, partially for her work in Scary Movie 5; a Worst Supporting Actor nomination for Nick Swardson, partially for his work in A Haunted House; and a Worst Screen Combo nomination for Lohan and Charlie Sheen for Scary Movie 5Scary Movie 5 and The Smurfs 2 also managed to snag nominations for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel.

The Golden Raspberry Awards will be handed out on the eve of Oscar night, Saturday, March 1, so we've got a while to wait before we find out which film will be crowned worst of them all. In the meantime, who do you think deserves it?
