Marvel says they want to make a Captain Marvel movie but: 'It's hard'

A familiar tune is being played regarding a movie starring Carol Danvers.

Not too long ago, a DC executive weighed in on the continued lack of a Wonder Woman movie and said it was tricky. Now we're getting a very similar runaround at Marvel regarding the possibility of a Captain Marvel movie.

What's funny is that a Carol movie wasn't even a blip on our radar until a few months ago, when it was mentioned that, among a number of other scripts on the docket, there was a Ms. Marvel one floating around. Which was exciting both because there are presently no Marvel movies where a woman is in the lead and because Carol Danvers is a really great character who we always want more of.

So what's happening with Captain Marvel, exactly? Well, it looks like the chances of her being in a movie anytime soon are slim to none. At least accoridng to Marvel Studios executive producer Louis D'Esposito, anyway.

It's hard because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that's what we're really concentrating on.

While we certainly want a Captain Marvel movie sooner rather than later, it doesn't feel like there's a demand for Marvel to drop everything they're doing and pay attention to the Carol Corps. That being said, would it be so hard to start finding a spot in the lineup somwhere in the next decade? Ant-Man is getting a movie, and he is both literally and figuratively not that big a star.

We think it's an idea whose day has come. How about you?
