Whoa! Keanu Reeves says there's a 'darkness' holding up Bill & Ted 3

Remember all that about how Bill and Ted 3 is still happily bouncing through rewrites on its way to the big screen? Well, now it sounds like there might be some trouble in paradise.

Last we heard from co-star Keanu Reeves, everyone was “very excited” about the looooooong-gestating sequel, which is in the midst of a rewrite. But in a new interview with MTV, the actor teases that some dark forces might be trying to keep the project from happening.

Here’s an excerpt:

"It's a long story. There's lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories. There's a whole thing... I might have to do one of those independent press, conspiracy, other-name kind of [statements] explaining why it hasn't happened yet, because it's pretty dark out there.

There is [a script]. There's all sorts of stuff and it just can't — it's just — there's darkness out there that's keeping it from happening... It's that part of the story where it's looking grim. It's the dark period of the idea!"

Now, Reeves does sound a little jokey in the interview — but there’s probably some truth at the core. The film has been in the works for a long, long time, and there’s got to be a reason it hasn’t happened yet.

Maybe the studio is feeling gun-shy about the potential budget, or perhaps the current script is terrible? We don’t know, but we hope Reeves is able to work through the “darkness” and finally get this one off the shelf.

What do you think? After so much time has passed, should this one even happen at all?
