Joss Whedon has never been shy about the fact that X-Men’s Kitty Pryde is one of his favorite characters in fiction — so what does Ellen Page think about letting Whedon bring the character to the big screen for her own adventure?
Not surprisingly, she thinks it’s a great idea. Can we make this happen, like, now? Page has done a great job with the character on the big screen, and fans would definitely be game for a spinoff.
Here’s what she told Vulture when asked if she’d be into a Whedon-helmed version:
“Well, I’m available! [Laughs.] I love that. Kitty Pryde’s awesome. I’m super grateful to be the actress who’s gotten to be her, and you only desperately hope that the true fans who have a right to demand what they want and who have been passionate about these stories for a really long time, that you can pull it off for them. I would be so thrilled to play Kitty Pryde again. I really would.”
Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men comic arc is easily one of the greatest Kitty Pryde stories ever told — so who better to direct it as a film version? His Wonder Woman film never materialized, and we all know he’s still jonesing to scratch that female-superhero itch.
Of course, a Kitty Pryde movie was briefly considered back before X-Men Origins: Wolverine almost derailed the franchise with its awfulness, and that will (sadly) probably be the closest we ever get.
But they’re both Marvel properties (though under different studios), which does improve the odds ever so slightly. There’s no telling if a Kitty Pryde story fits into Bryan Singer’s new X-Men master plan, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
What do you think? Would you watch a Kitty Pryde-led film?
