Artist mashes up Toy Story and The Shining into super-creepy images

You will never look at Woody the cowboy the same way again.

Pixar's Toy Story is a heartwarming family film about friendship and acceptance. Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is an atmospheric creepfest about a man who slowly goes insane and tries to murder his family in a haunted hotel. You'd be hard pressed to find any similarities between the two, other than that they're both great movies, but that didn't stop U.K.-based artist Kyle Lambert from putting them together anyway.

In a series of 25 gorgeously creepy digital paintings he calls "Toy Shining," Lambert takes characters from the Toy Story trilogy and recasts them in some of the most memorable visual moments from The Shining. Woody becomes Jack Torrance, Jessie becomes Wendy Torrance, the lazy-eyed Big Baby from Toy Story 3 becomes Danny, the claw-worshipping aliens become the dead twin girls, and so on. It's all amazing work, but what could possibly give someone the idea to do this? Lambert explains:

"Earlier this year I began following Lee Unkrich (director of Toy Story 3) on Twitter (@leeunkrich). As well as his journey to the Oscars with Toy Story 3, Lee often tweets about his passion for Stanley Kubrick and the movie The Shining which inspired him to pursue a career in filmmaking. Having seen both The Shining and Toy Story 3 for the first time recently myself, I thought it would be cool idea to mash the two movies together as a fun side project."

But the story doesn't end there. Back in February, Lambert got a chance to visit Pixar's headquarters, and he took a poster-sized print of all the Toy Shining images with him to give to Unkrich. Unfortunately, Unkrich wasn't available, but he did eventually receive the gift and sent this tweet out a few months later.
