Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn TV series really is happening

We’d heard rumblings a while back that Robert Rodriguez wanted to turn his cult-classic vampire flick From Dusk Till Dawn into a TV series — and now it seems like it might actually happen.

Rodriguez is signed on to write, produce and direct the series — which will be based on the 1996 flick starring Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney as two guys who seek refuge among a boatload of vampires.

Spanish-language network Univision is teaming up with new English-language cable channel El Rey to make the series happen. After bouncing around in development for a while, it's now being reported that filming will kick off in mid-October.

Though Rodriguez has carved out a solid niche as a weirdly awesome film director, he’s pretty untested when it comes to television. So it’ll be interesting to see if he has the wherewithal to transfer the concept from the big screen to the small one.

Regardless, we’re definitely curious to see where this goes. If he can manage to craft a smart, weird series with its own vampy mythology — plus an ample share of sexiness, blood and ass-kicking — it could be a hit. Fingers crossed he calls in Tarantino to give him a few notes.

What do you think? Can From Dusk Till Dawn work as a TV series?
