He's not playing The Doctor yet, but you can help sate your Peter Capaldi anticipation by watching his 2008 Doctor Who appearance for free.
Five years before he was cast as the Twelfth Doctor, Capaldi -- a lifelong fan of the series -- appeared alongside Tenth Doctor David Tennant in "The Fires of Pompeii," the fourth series episode that also featured Karen Gillan, who would return to the series to play the Eleventh Doctor's feisty companion Amy Pond two years later. Capaldi has a rather prominent role in the episode as Lucius Caecilius Icundus, a successful Roman merchant who encounters the Doctor when the Time Lord and his companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) arrive in Pompeii the day before the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the town in 79 AD, only to find that Pompeii has more to worry about than a volcano.
