Latest Batman casting rumor: (Another) Hobbit star in the running

Who's the latest Middle-earth actor to step into the bat signal's glare? Hint: He's pretty handy with a bow.

Last week we gave you six names of some hunky middle-age stars in the running to don the Dark Knight's famous cape in the new Batman vs. Superman project. Now a new, younger casting call has gone out and snagged the name of ass-kicking elf Legolas' alter ego Orlando Bloom for the coveted role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

This is the second name to pop up from the wilds of The Hobbit trilogy, with Richard Armitage's Oakenshield skills being mentioned in the last round of rumors. Apparently an "anonymous source from within WB" revealed to The Daily Express that Bloom was "top choice" to portray bruising billionaire Bruce Wayne. Of course they're just now putting the script together, meaning most of these casting reports are insanely premature, but it sure is fun to guess.

Bloom fits the bill for a sleeker, more Batman Beyond-ish take on the Wayne character and his fierce, fluttering alter-ego. But does Legolas have the brutality to go boot-to-boot with the Last Son of Krypton and could he lend the iconic role a New Age-y angst?

Who do you see under the cowl to kick ass against Kal-El?
