Here's the next Stephen King miniseries (and more!) coming to TV

Classic horror fans, you’re in luck: The folks at NBC are looking to beef up their miniseries slate with some freaky new projects inspired by two of the scariest stories out there.

The network has announced that two new miniseries are in the works, based on Ira Levin’s Rosemary’s Baby and Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers. Both are legit horror classics, and it’ll be interesting to see how they’re reworked for modern audiences.

Rosemary’s Baby will be developed as a four-hour miniseries following the story of a woman unknowingly carrying the Antichrist in her womb. The project will be written by Scott Abbott (Queen of the Damned), with Joshua Maurer, David Stern, Perri Kipperman and Alix Witlin executive-producing.

The Tommyknockers, which is set in a small town affected by an alien artifact in the nearby woods, will be directed by Emmy winner Yves Simoneau (V, The 4400). Frank Konigsberg and Larry Sanitsky are attached to executive produce.

The story of Rosemary’s Baby is probably best known from its 1968 film adaptation, which is considered one of the scariest movies ever made. The Tommyknockers has a less prestigious history on the screen, and was most recently turned into a decent 1993 TV miniseries.

Rosemary’s Baby brings a lot of name cachet, so it’s not much of a surprise to see it pop back up all these years later. The Tommyknockers is a more interesting pick, but King’s work is having a small-screen renaissance these days thanks to Under the Dome and Haven, so it makes sense that this story will get another shot.

What do you think of these two new horror projects? Will you be watching?
