Nimoy just teased what could be the release date of the next Trek pic

What good is an awesome secret unless you can tell someone?  Leonard Nimoy obviously couldn't restrain himself any longer and sent out this cryptic tweet last Friday, hinting at what might be the official release date for J.J. Abrams' next Star Trek sequel.  Or is it?   Here's Nimoy's nugget:

It's well known across the galaxy that Sept. 8, 2016, is the 50th anniversary of the original airing of the Star Trek television series and that studio brass hoped to get the next sequel out in time to mark that memorable occasion.

So did Spock Prime spill the beans here and tell the world when we'd see the Enterprise crew in action again, or does this date have some other significance?  September seems light-years away from the gilded summer release season where maximum profits are mined.

What do you think Nimoy knows?
