Game of Thrones has just cast another important season 4 role by snatching former Torchwood actress Indira Varma for the role of the Red Viper’s lady love.
EW’s James Hibbert reports that Varma—who most of you may remember as the infamous Suzie Costello from Torchwood—has nabbed the role of Ellaria Sand, the “sexually adventurous paramour” of Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), aka the Red Viper of Dorne, another new pivotal character making his eagerly awaited appearance in the upcoming fourth season of Thrones.
The former Torchwood actress also played Niobe in the first season of HBO’s popular historical drama Rome a few years back. Since then, the actress has appeared on Human Target, Silk and the first season of Luther amongst a slew of other roles.
Varma joins Mark Gatiss—whose role has yet to be confirmed—and Pascal on the hit fantasy HBO series for the upcoming fourth season which has recently started filming.
Indira Varma is not the only former Rome alum to have joined the cast. Last season, Thrones added Julius Caesar himself—actor Ciaran Hinds—to the already long roster of actors in the role of the famous King-beyond-the-Wall Mance Rayder.
