Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer responds to that Green Goblin rumor

SDCC 2013: Producer Avi Arad Talks 'The Amazing Spider Man 2'

Could we be waiting a while longer to see the Green Goblin after all?

Last week Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-star Felicity Jones seemed to be (accidentally or not) revealing something very big when she said this about her character:

"It’s all quite shrouded in secrecy, but I’m the Goblin’s girlfriend – I’m in a relationship with him, and his accomplice. I’m on the dark side."

That, coupled with the knowledge that the sequel will feature both Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) and his son Harry (Dane DeHaan), made it seem certain that the film would at least introduce this continuity's incarnation of the Green Goblin. But now producer Avi Arad -- who's had a hand in every big-screen incarnation of Spider-Man to date, along with most of the small-screen ones -- is saying not so fast. Here's his version of what's really going on between Jones' character and the men of Oscorp.

"I think at this point, at this movie, we are not addressing it yet," Arad told IAmRogue. "She meets some of the players because she works for Oscorp and there's no -- I think she likes Harry, I think she cares for him, I think Harry is interested in models. I think whatever was in print out there really doesn't represent what you'll see in the movie or what you'll see sometime in the future."

So, while Arad's comments are somewhat vague, he does seem to be dismissing the idea of the Green Goblin this time out, and maybe that's for the best. After all, we've already got two villains (Electro and Rhino) in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and we all remember what happens when you overload a film with nemeses (remember Spider-Man 3?). Still, Arad's remarks do seem to hint that we'll get the Green Goblin at some point, and with two more Spidey movies already in the works, it feels like it's only a matter of time. Or maybe it's already time, and he's just trying to mask Jones' comments with his own to throw us off the trail ...

What do you think? Would you like to see glimpses of the Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man 2, or is it a development best saved for later movies?
