Katee Sackhoff's Comic-Con tease: Riddick may get a love interest!

Riddick (Vin Diesel), the escaped convict on the lam in space, has been running from bounty hunters for a span of 13 years now in Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick and the upcoming Riddick, but is an emotional entanglement going to be the thing that trips him up?

There’s a good chance, actress Katee Sackhoff tells Blastr exclusively.

She plays Dahl, a mercenary bounty hunter hot on Riddick’s trail in Riddick, but instead of mutual death the two end up showing each other some surprising empathy.

[Spoilers ahead]

“There was a moment on camera that was caught where Riddick is about to be executed, and my character gets interrupted, but she has a movement to stop,” Sackhoff reveals about a key scene between the characters in the upcoming film.

“We don’t know exactly if she would have gone through with it, or what she was doing, but it ended up being something meaningful. That was something I added in myself, because I had spent time at that point with Vin, talking to him about Dahl and the Riddick characters. I realized in this moment that Dahl realizes that a lot of what is said about Riddick is true, but a lot of it is different. In that moment of the execution, I think something changes. Dahl is a very dark character. She’s not lost. But she’s kind of a loner, and for the first time when she saves Riddick there is a kinship. For the first time in her life, she meets someone who gets her, and she doesn’t have to apologize for who she is.”

Diesel and Sackhoff are signed for another sequel if Riddick captures audience favor once again, and the actress says she’s sure their tentative relationship will get explored further in that sequel.

“I think there is a side to him that feels he could be connected to her, not necessarily in a romantic way, but in a trust and a 'got your back' way. It will be interesting to see what happens.”'

Riddick opens Sept. 6, 2013.
