Former Lost star lands terrifying role on Once Upon a Time spinoff

The Once Upon a Time spinoff just got more interesting. Today, during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con, showrunner Edward Kitsis confirmed that Naveen Andrews has joined the cast. And no, he won't be a good guy. Instead, he'll play one of the main villains, Jafar! You might remember the character from a little story called Aladdin.

According to Kitsis, “We absolutely had this character in mind and we knew we wanted Naveen to play it. We asked him he said yes and we said lets save it for Comic-Con … it’s going to be very frightening.” We knew another Lost alum would find their way onto Once. Andrews is excited to be back at his old stomping grounds reuniting with Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

“I’m proud and thrilled to be back with ABC on an exciting and unique new show!” said Andrews in a statement to EW. “This role will be a real departure from any animated versions because of the layered emotions and complexities involved with making him a real three-dimensional character.”
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until Oct. to see Andrews' Jafar in action.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland premieres Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

What do you think of Andrews joining the Wonderland cast?
