Whedon explains why we'll see Maria Hill recurring on S.H.I.E.L.D.

Oh, thank goodness.

We were thrilled that actress Cobie Smulders made her Whedon debut in Marvel's Avengers. But since she's a regular on the hugely popular CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, we assumed we wouldn't be seeing her character Maria Hill on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

We were wrong.

Not only will Maria Hill appear in the pilot episode, but she'll be peppered in throughout the first season. Says geek lord and master Joss Whedon:

I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD. She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.

And we're thrilled. Agent Maria Hill was great in the Avengers, but we didn't get nearly as much of her as we wanted. Also, we love the witty charm that oozes out of Cobie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother. What role will she take? We're not sure yet, but we're hoping she'll take the reins from Nick Fury and be the boss.

Now that you know -- what do you want to see Maria Hill do on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
