Levi reveals latest on Chuck movie (and why it might take a while)

The beloved NBC series Chuck has been off the air for more than a year now, but star Zachary Levi says we may still have to wait a while for that long-rumored film followup.

In a sit-down with TV Line, Levi talked about how plans are going for a film version and exactly how they plan on funding it. It sounds like most of the cast is pretty interested in returning for one last hurrah, but Levi said there are still some details to work out.

Namely: They can’t launch a movie yet because the show is still airing in some markets, and he worries they might spoil the series finale if they went ahead and cranked out a movie. Plus, he’s not entirely sold on asking fans to foot the bill via services like Kickstarter — so he’s still figuring out how everyone can be involved in a more equitable way.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

"I want it to happen, I’ve talked to Warner Bros. about it. I think it sits right now in everyone’s head, yeah, that could be something we could do together. But, it's not gonna happen for a couple of years, probably, because the show is still airing in some markets around the world, and I wouldn’t want to spoil it for those markets ... I don’t know I’d necessarily want to do it on Kickstarter, per se. I want it to be something that very much involves the fans, in how you sell that and how that comes to be. But, I kind of want to build something, even if it's me building it myself, a different kind of crowdsource. Like where you can pre-buy a video game, and pay a little bit of a premium and get the limited edition of it."

Levi had a lengthy chat, talking about everything from his Chuck memories to general geekiness, and it’s well worth a look.

Do you think the series finale was a good place to call it quits, or do you still want to see one last mission?
