New Amazing Spider-Man 2 set pics hint at MAJOR twist ending

We’ve been operating under the assumption that Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 would tackle one of the most iconic scenes in comic lore — but some new set pics hint that we could be in for a shocker.

Potential spoilers ahead!

Between the introduction of Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson, and comments from the cast in recent months, it looked pretty likely that the sequel would bring us the iconic death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

Heck, we’ve already seen set pics of Stone sporting Gwen Stacy’s trademark death outfit, which we thought all but sealed the deal. Until now. Some new set pics have popped up showing Spider-Man making a daring rescue of Gwen Stacy ... sporting the outfit we all expected to be the last one she’d ever wear, based on her fate in the comics.

So what does this mean? It could be a few things. For one, this scene could be a different rescue that takes place before Stacy’s death-by-fall (with it all happening the same night, presumably, to account for the outfit). Or, perhaps they’re keeping in Gwen’s death, but changing the details of how it happens. The other option: They don’t kill Gwen at all, and Spidey makes a “what if”-style rescue while she’s falling. Then, if they’re dead set on killing her, there’s always part three.

Regardless, it’s fun to speculate — and these new set pics only work to make us all the more curious.
