With the gut-wrenching news that Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who in this year’s upcoming Xmas special, now come speculations as to who will be the next Doctor. So could we be in for our very first female Doctor?
The Sun reports that the BBC producers are actually looking at several actors and actresses—yep, actresses—to play the next Time Lord. A source revealed: “All actors, no matter their sex or race, will be considered. If they are good enough, the part is theirs.”
It’s not the first time rumors have been swirling about that a woman could play the next Doctor. Heck, even Dame Helen Mirren said she wanted in on the role. And what if the Impossible Girl, Clara Oswin Oswald (Jenna Louise Coleman), actually became the next Doctor? Would that work? Okay, maybe not. Too complicated. But Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat likes his stuff complex as much as he—much like the good old Doctor—lies.
We'll be seeing Smith again for the upcoming 50th-anniversary special, which has already been filmed and will also star returning Tenth Doctor David Tennant as well as Billie Piper back as Rose Tyler.
Do you believe the time is now to have a woman finally step into the TARDIS as the Doctor?
