Ron Moore's time-traveling TV series Outlander gets the green light!

Time-travel and toaster fans rejoice! Ronald D. Moore’s (Battlestar Galactica) newest series Outlander has finally been greenlighted. Guys, get your kilts on.

Starz has given a series order for the romantic time-traveling drama series, based on a very successful series of seven books by author Diana Gabaldon. An eighth one is due out later this year.

The project, spearheaded by Moore and Sony Pictures TV, will now go ahead and develop a 16-episodes series, with production starting this October in Scotland.

The storyline follows Claire, a married World War II nurse who steps back in time to 1743, where she is thrown into sweeping adventures as well as into the arms of Jamie, a romantic and chivalrous young Scottish warrior, marrying him as well.

What’s a gal to do, you ask me?

Moore will be surrounded by Toni Graphia, Matt Roberts, Ira Behr and Anne Kenney, who have joined him in the writers' room.

Next up on Ron Moore's fantasy/sci-fi plate is the upcoming series Helix for Syfy, and that one looks pretty darn cool, too.

Are you excited about Starz's upcoming new series Outlander? Think it could give series like HBO's Game of Thrones a run for its money in the fantasy department?
