Idris Elba is a total badass in 1st official Pacific Rim clip

We’ve seen mechs beating the crap out of monsters in all those trailers, but the first clip from Pacific Rim focuses on the characters — and it looks like Idris Elba’s is a total badass.

Elba’s character seems to be the man in charge of the military installation, which we’re going to guess is where the Jaeger program is operated from. Elba’s Gen. Stacker Pentecost is seen having a heated chat with Charlie Hunnam’s Raleigh Antrobus, and Elba lays the smackdown.

This one is an interesting pick for the first official clip, as it's a nice change of pace from the insanity of those huge FX battles. We get a peek at some of the head-butting going on between the characters instead, and it looks like Elba won’t be taking any crap from anyone.

Check out the clip below and let us know what you think:

The film opens July 12. Do you plan on checking it out?
