Ever since we learned Matt Smith was leaving Doctor Who in this year’s upcoming Christmas special, rumors and speculations as to who would become the Twelfth Doctor have been rife. While we wait with trepidation for an announcement, the BBC is basically telling us not to hold our breath.
A BBC insider told Radio Times that the name of the actor who’ll get handed the keys to the TARDIS won’t be revealed until at least August … perhaps even September!
Well, it’s because filming on the Doctor Who yuletide special won’t begin until at least August/September.
The identity of the actor will be revealed before filming is set to commence, so that means we’ll know who will fill Matt Smith's big Time Lord shoes in either late summer or early autumn.
Initially, the BBC had hoped for filming on the Xmas special to begin earlier than that, even perhaps in July.
A spokeswoman said: “Suffice to say we are completely on track.”
In the meanwhile, the rumor mill is still working full steam ahead, and new names have been bandied about as to who could play the next incarnation of our beloved Mad Man in the Big Blue Police Box.
The names are ranging from Rory Kinnear (Skyfall) to Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter’s Bill Weasley), Daniel Kaluuya (The Fades), Julian Rhind-Tutt (The Hour), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) or Sheridan Smith (Lucie Miller in all those Eight Doctor Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas), as well as quite a few more thespians.
Earlier this month, the BBC were forced to respond to rumors that the Twelfth Doctor had already been chosen, shooting them down.
So are you guys disappointed that we still have a long while to wait before we finally learn which actor will be the next Doctor on Who?
