For the former Transformers star, being in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seems to have come at a heady price.
Since the early '90s incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, April O'Neil has been known for two things -- a yellow jumpsuit and red hair. And while the jumpsuit wasn't exactly something that stood the test of time, those ginger locks are still closely associated with the fictional reporter.
So among the myriad reasons geeks were nervous about Megan Fox taking on the role of April O'Neil was this notion that she wouldn't even bother to dye her hair! But she has, and apparently it's not gone over very well.
According to a an unknown source:
After dying [Fox's] mane red for her role as April O'Neil in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle remake, producers hated the result and sent her back to the salon for a redo, which wreaked havoc on her once-lush locks. She went to a different stylist, and they ended up using a metallic hair dye that reacted to the initial product. Next thing you know, her hair started falling out in clumps!
Oh, dear! Was the suffering worth it in the name of continuity? Apparently, Fox didn't take it very well, according to an eyewitness who claims, "I have never seen anyone so upset in my entire life! It was so sad. She had to get extensions underneath the top layer of hair. It's left her terribly self-conscious, and she doesn't want anyone to know."
Naturally, friends of the actress are claiming the story isn't true. And it may not be. But if you have ever dyed your hair repeatedly, you know that too many treatments can cause hair to break and even fall out.
We assumed that being a friend to some turtles who mutated into teenaged ninjas wouldn't be an easy gig, but this is weird even under those circumstances. Maybe next time they should just give her a wig?
