Pirates! The apocalypse! 1st look at Michael Bay's 2 new TV series

If you haven’t been getting enough Michael Bay in your diet, you’re in luck: The explosion maestro behind the Transformers series has two new TV series in the works set to debut next year. His latest targets? An apocalyptic military tale and a hard-nosed pirate series.

First up, TNT has ordered Bay’s The Last Ship to series with 10 episodes, which will follow the crew of a U.S. Navy destroyer after a global catastrophe decimates most of the world’s population. The crew are among a small group of survivors and could hold the fate of humanity in their hands. Of course, that dense conspiracy plot will play out with a fair share of explosions (shocked, no?) as the crew tries to make sense of the world around them.

If it could take some of the best elements of Shawn Ryan’s criminally short-lived Last Resort and throw in some nice sci-fi twists, it could be fun. Here’s hoping.

As if that wasn’t enough, Starz has also announced the tentative premiere date for Bay’s pirate drama Black Sails, which will follow Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men 20 years before the events of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island. The show is set to debut in January 2014.

The network has released a tantalizing new poster for the series, which plays up the Game of Thrones-meets-Sons of Anarchy comparisons that have been thrown around. Depending on the execution, that could be a really good thing.

Which of these series are you most looking forward to? If any?
