Thrones sets record (again), Hannibal drops + 43 other genre shows

Game of Thrones seems to be bent on conquest.

The HBO fantasy hit has always put up solid numbers, but as we hit the midway point of season three it just keeps getting bigger, and now it's threatening to overtake True Blood's position as the network's top show. Meanwhile, we're entering "May sweeps," that all-important month-long period when shows work extra hard to draw in bigger ratings and impress their networks.

Check out the numbers and commentary below to see how your favorite shows are doing in Live + Same Day viewers.

MONDAY, April 22nd

Defiance (Syfy) 2.40 million viewers/0.8

Defiance took a drop after its premiere, but not a very steep one. Its second week still brought in very strong numbers for Syfy. Let's see if it can carry this momentum into May sweeps.

Lost Girl (Syfy) 1.20 million viewers/0.4

After a few low weeks Lost Girl returned to post a big gain for its season finale, putting up its best numbers since September. We'll see it again soon.

Bates Motel (A&E) 2.93 million viewers/1.3

Bates Motel again posted gains this week, for its best episode in nearly a month. More good news for this A&E original.

Revolution (NBC) 5.88 million viewers/2.0/6 share

Revolution returned from an unexpected week off to its worst numbers ever. They're still not too shabby, though, and the show now has a second season on the way.

THURSDAY, April 25th

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 15.05 million viewers/4.5/15 share

April 25 marked the official beginning of Nielsen's 2013 May sweeps period, and The Big Bang Theory started surprisingly slow, dropping more than 2 million viewers from its last episode. But even with such a dip, it still beat everything on the else on the air that night, and it's still got another season coming, so there's not much to worry about.

Person of Interest (CBS) 13.22 million viewers/2.4/7 share

Person of Interest also came in a bit low in its first sweeps episode, but still put up some very strong numbers.

Elementary (CBS) 10.07 million viewers/2.0/6 share

Elementary was also down, but CBS is still dominant on Thursdays, and you can bet it's got a few tricks up its sleeve for May.

The Vampire Diaries (CW) 2.24 million viewers/1.0/3 share

The Vampire Diaries basically broke even this week. We'll see if it can gain some ground in May.

Beauty and the Beast (CW) 1.24 million viewers/0.5/1 share

Beauty and the Beast dropped a bit this week, but The CW thought its performance overall has been good enough to grant it a second season.

Hannibal (NBC) 2.40 million viewers/1.0/3 share

Hannibal took a big drop this week for its worst episode yet by far. That's not a very good way to start off a sweeps period, but it's definitely got time to make up for it.

Merlin (Syfy) -- OFF (Returns May 3)

Grimm (NBC) 4.85 million viewers/1.3/4 share

Grimm returned from an unplanned week off to slightly lower numbers. Next week it moves to Tuesday, where it has a chance at raising its profile during sweeps.

Da Vinci's Demons (Starz) 0.38 million viewers/0.2

Da Vinci's Demons dropped last week in the midst of high-profile breaking news, so we thought it might not be the show's fault. This week the numbers fell again. Is this a sign that Starz should have waited a few more weeks before deciding to renew it?

Spartacus (Starz) — Run ended.

SUNDAY, April 28th

Once Upon a Time (ABC) 7.16 million viewers/2.0/6 share

Once Upon a Time dropped again this week, but the drop was small. We'll see if it can use sweeps to its advantage.

666 Park Avenue (ABC) — OFF

666 Park Avenue's final four episodes will show up this summer on ABC, then it's done.

Game of Thrones (HBO) 5.34 million viewers/2.8

For the third straight week Game of Thrones posted gains in both viewers and demo score, and for the third straight week the show set a new series record in both. This week it topped five million viewers in a single broadcast for the very first time, and earned a higher viewership than any episode of True Blood did last season. Until now the vampire drama was HBO's most popular show with a bullet. Is Game of Thrones poised to conquer it?
