1st look at Ben Kingsley as the tattooed commander of Ender's Game

Sir Ben Kingsley is a man of many faces. Just when we get used to him as the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, we get a sneak peek at his next role. The actor stars in this fall's Ender's Game as Mazer Rackem. Over at Entertainment Weekly, they've published the first photo of Kingsley from the film.

Just who is Mazer Rackem? He's an International Fleet Commander who's also a touted war hero. Kingsley tells the magazine, “In the script, which I think is beautifully written, what come across is the authority and mystery. There’s quite a lot said about him in the story  before you see him — by the recruits and by his fellow officers — and that’s useful as far as preparations.”

You also can't ignore Rackem's distinctive look. His face is covered in ink, which serves an important purpose. "Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles -- it’s your past,” the actor says. “I was so enthralled. He’s in quite a contained, stylized uniform, but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history.”

Ender's Game opens in theaters Nov. 1.

What do you think of Kingsley as Mazer Rackem?
