We already know that Marvel is prepping Phase 3 of its big-screen master plan, and now it looks like it could have a director in mind for Doctor Strange.
Fede Alvarez, the man responsible for the gore-tastic reimagining of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, is reportedly in talks with Marvel about the mystical project. Doctor Strange is a major part of Phase 3, and after Guardians of the Galaxy, will mark Marvel’s continued foray into the deeper comic catalog.
This report comes from Latino Review, which has a solid but spotty record with rumors, so take it with a grain of salt. But, realistically, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Alvarez and Evil Dead writer Rodo Sayagues did take a meeting.
They’re a hot duo at the moment, and showed flashes of brilliance with their first mid-budget studio flick. Alvarez will have a lot of options on his plate soon, so it’s only logical that Marvel would want to have a chat with the up-and-comer.
If this is true, it’s probably still a long way from becoming official, but it’s fun to think about. Alvarez’s style would actually be a pretty good fit for Doctor Strange, and you’d have to think he’d bring a unique look to what will be one of the most challenging Marvel movies of the decade.
What do you think of the report? Who would you like to see tackle Doctor Strange?
