Wil Wheaton's heartfelt speech to a newborn about being a geek

If you didn’t already love Wil Wheaton, this should put you over the top.

As a guest speaker at the recent Calgary Comic Expo, the Star Trek: The Next Generation and Big Bang Theory star was asked by a fan to tell her newborn baby daughter about “Why it’s awesome to be a nerd.”

The answer is a heartfelt four-minute speech that digs at the heart of what it truly means to be a geek, from a love for science to a thirst for knowledge. He may be a “professional nerd” these days, but it’s inspiring to see that Wheaton hasn’t lost touch with the unadulterated geekiness that ties us all together.

It’s all about how much we love the things we love. Simple, elegant and truly geeky. Here’s hoping that when this little lady grows up, she’ll take these words to heart.
