Iron Man 3 director says his Doc Savage movie is finally back on track

Now that Iron Man 3 is done, director Shane Black is setting his sights again on the long-awaited Doc Savage movie.

Speaking to Collider, Black said:

“Well Doc Savage is proceeding on pace. I mean we’ve got to try to set a deal now to go back into that, so as Iron Man wound down I sort of reconnected with Sony who have been gracious to say, ‘We’ll wait a year and sit on these rights until you’re finished with this other picture that we don’t control.’ So they were really cool about it, they were really nice. So yeah I’m back on it.”

Doc Savage was described by the series’ main writer, Lester Dent, as “a mix of Sherlock Holmes’ deductive abilities, Tarzan’s outstanding physical abilities, Craig Kennedy’s scientific education, and Abraham Lincoln’s goodness.”

He was a fictional character with stories originally published in U.S. pulp magazines during the 1930s and 1940s (he first appeared in March 1933 in the first issue of Doc Savage Magazine). "The Man of Bronze" also appeared on the radio and in comic books. If you recall, there was also a little 1975 movie, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze, which starred former Tarzan actor Ron Ely.

Producer Neal Moritz also added that Black is “100%” still writing and directing Doc Savage and that it’ll be Shane Black’s next big film, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Are you guys excited that Doc Savage is back on? And who do you think should play the iconic pulp fiction hero?
