Rumor of the Day: Zack Snyder's gonna be directing Justice League

Looks like Justice League could be even more closely tied to Man of Steel than we thought.

We've all believed for a while now that the future of a flick as massive as Justice League would probably depend on how successful Zack Snyder's Superman reboot is. But that hasn't stopped Warner Bros. from developing the project, and out of that development we've gotten a swath of rumors about who'll be directing what could be the Warner Bros. equivalent of The Avengers. Ben Affleck's name has been thrown around a bit, as have Andy and Lana Wachowski's names. We've even heard that Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer could be up for the gig.

While out promoting the Blu-ray release of his latest flick Gangster Squad, Fleischer was asked about Justice League, and though he doesn't seem to be the man for the job, he might know who is. Here's what he said when asked by Screen Crush about the project:

Well that’s something that Zack Snyder is going to wind up doing.

Now, it's important to note that this may simply be Fleischer's opinion about where the film is headed, and it doesn't necessarily prove that he knows something we don't, but his voice is the most prominent (so far) in an ever-growing group that thinks Snyder's almost certainly the man for the job. Bleeding Cool is also reporting that Justice League could see Snyder re-teaming with Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer, who also had a hand in the mega-successful Dark Knight trilogy. As the buzz and anticipation for Man of Steel grows, the only question that remains is how well Snyder's re-imagining of the Man of Tomorrow will do with critics and -- more importantly -- moviegoers. If the flick hits on a Dark Knight scale, the Justice League gig could be Snyder's to refuse ... unless he's already moving on Man of Steel 2.

What do you think? Is Zack Snyder poised to be the new grandmaster of the DC movie universe, and is he the right man for the job?
