Actor we all thought would be Guardians hero cast as its villain

One of our favorite genre actors looks like he's headed to the Marvel Universe after all.

There were quite a few hats in the ring for the part of Star Lord, Peter Quill, in the new Guardians of of the Galaxy movie. Among them was vampire, elf and pie-maker (but mostly actor) Lee Pace. We were excited at the thought of him being a leading man in Marvel's space opera. Alas, it was not to be.

But now it turns out our Mr. Pace has found himself in Guardians after all -- as its villain. Pace is presently in final negotiations for a part that is being kept very hush-hush. Other than the fact that he will be evil and, most likely, an alien, we are in the proverbial dark.

Still, it's good just knowing that Pace is involved. He was a great Thranduil in The Hobbit, and he charmed the pants right off us in Bryan Fuller's Pushing Daisies.  The prospect of seeing him turn heel has us very excited.

How about you?
