Star of Bay's TMNT reboot: 'Everything you read online is wrong'

With rumors that he’s dropping the “teenage” and “mutant” aspects, Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reboot isn’t getting a lot of love in fandom these days. But star Alan Ritchson (Raphael) has a message for all the haters.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Ritchson at the MTV Movie awards and asked him about all the bad buzz. According to the former Smallville star, the fans have it all wrong. All those rumors? They’re mostly taken out of context, and he promises the film will be a worthy successor to the beloved franchise’s moniker.

Here’s what he had to say:

"The frustrating thing for me since I've signed on is that you hear that it's already got a reputation. I think people assume they know what it's going to be about, and those people are wrong. The assumptions, everything you read online is wrong. You want to tell everybody how great it is, and you can't really say why, but it is.”

Ritchson said he’s currently shooting in Manhattan with co-star Megan Fox (April O’Neil), and the technology for the live-action/CGI hybrid should definitely make for a unique look once fans finally get a peek:

"There's just a lot of technology involved. So there are kinks to work out ... We're running around Manhattan, me and Megan Fox, her looking wonderful and me looking like some kind of ant with cameras all over my face.”

From delays, alleged changes to the canon and rumored script issues, Bay’s Turtles has gotten a bum rap in recent months. But it’s hard to judge much of anything until we actually get a look at the finished product.

How do you think it will turn out?
