The mysterious new Disney flick Tomorrowland (aka 1952) has had sci-fi fans guessing for months about what the heck it’s all about. Now a rumored synopsis has leaked into the wild ... and it’s definitely intriguing.
Early rumors about the Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird project revolved around a potential Roswell/UFO storyline similar to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but a plot blurb allegedly attached to some casting notes reveals an alternative-dimension pitch about a fantastical, scientific world.
Here’s the synopsis:
"A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth."
Admittedly, when you cram that much sci-fi into one sentence, it sounds a little weird. But this sounds like a pretty unique story that could be a lot of fun as a major tentpole. How it all connects back to that mysterious box? We have no idea, and would need a little more info to put it all together.
That's all assuming this synopsis is even true, of course. As Hitfix notes, studios will sometimes include some wildly inaccurate synopses with casting notes just to spread misinformation so that the actual storyline stays under wraps. Sneaky, sneaky.
The film has already cast George Clooney (Solaris) and Hugh Laurie (House) for the major roles, which are rumored to be scientists who travel between our world and Tomorrowland.
Do you like the story hinted at here, or do you think it's just a sneaky bit of misdirection?
