1st Godzilla set video reveals reboot's mysterious opening scene

That Godzilla reboot only started shooting today, but director Gareth Edwards has already gone ahead and leaked out the first set video from production. So what do we see?

Edwards is front and center, video diary-style, saying hi to fans and letting everyone know that filming is officially underway. He’s obviously standing on set, and in the background we can see an airport terminal with signs in Japanese. Hmm, it’ll be interesting to see if the film is actually set in Japan, or if the locale only features into an America-set story.

Likely it's a combination of both, as Edwards could be trying to pay homage to the franchise’s roots while reintroducing it to a new generation of fans. Edwards has already proven he can make a smart monster movie with his indie hit Monsters, so here’s hoping he can make ample use of a bigger budget and star power.

The flick will star a who’s-who of great sci-fi stars, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai), Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House), Juliette Binoche (Cosmopolis), David Strathairn (Alphas) and Bryan Cranston (Total Recall) all attached. The script was written by former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont.

Check out Edwards’ video below and let us know what interesting tidbits you spot in the background:
