14 minor sci-fi film characters who are worthy of their own movie
Ever see a supporting character on the big screen and think "It would be so cool to see the rest of their story?"
We definitely have. After all, we listed 10 Star Wars characters who deserve solo movies a while back, so naturally we're thinking beyond Star Wars now. There are plenty of fascinating supporting characters in sci-fi cinema, and some of them stand out so much that we can't help but wonder what it would be like if they took a starring role in their own big-screen adventures. So, with that in mind, we picked more than a dozen fascinating sci-fi characters who could carry their own movies.

Abraham Sapien from Hellboy: Abe Sapien's life has played out far more in Hellboy and BPRD comics than it has on the big screen, and it's high time this highly intelligent water-dwelling superhero had his moment in the cinematic sun.
Nightcrawler from X2: X-Men United: He's a fan favorite X-Men comics character, and he's a classic outcast. Wolverine might be the most famous X-Man, but a Nightcrawler movie could be incredible.
The Rainmaker from Looper: OK, we're not showing his face because we don't want to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it yet, but consider the non-spoiler angle: The story of a powerful telekinetic crime lord as he seizes control of a future criminal organization. Sounds like fun, right?
Captain Shakespeare from Stardust: The world of Neil Gaiman's Stardust (brought to the big screen by Matthew Vaughn) is compelling enough by itself, so why not return to it? The flamboyant Captain Shakespeare is the perfect vehicle for another trip to this fairy tale land.
Vasquez from Aliens: Honestly, we could make a movie about any (or all) of the Marines that made Aliens into the classic action movie it is today, but Vasquez is in many ways the most interesting. She's a woman who can hold her own with the baddest of badasses, and she's still one of the most interesting characters in the film.
Lady Sif (and The Warriors Three) from Thor: Lady Sif has proven herself in battle, and her warrior companions are plenty entertaining, so why not give her a solo adventure outside of Thor's story?
Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter: When he's first introduced in the fourth Harry Potter film, Mad-Eye Moody is already a legend. It would be a whole lot of fun to see how he got his legendary status on the big screen.
James Gordon from The Dark Knight Trilogy: He's had plenty of his own adventures in comics at this point. so why can't Gordon get a cool detective movie all his own?
Black Widow from Iron Man 2 and The Avengers: Yeah, yeah , yeah, we know we're not the first to bark up this tree, but come on. Black Widow is an awesome superhero with a dark past that merits exploring on the big screen. So why can't she have her own movie?
Arwen Evenstar from The Lord of the Rings: She's the daughter of arguably the most important elf in Tolkien's mythology, and she's got both magical and physical combat skills. How could you not want to see a movie about her centuries-long life?
Brain (and Maggie) from Escape from New York: This guy somehow staked out the New York Public Library as his own personal palace when Manhattan went to hell. We want to know how that happened.
Cigarette Smoking Man from The X-Files: Fight the Future: Yes, we know CSM's history was explored quite a bit in the TV series, but he's just too fascinating. We want his story to play out on the big screen.
Eames from Inception: Who doesn't want to see a movie starring Tom Hardy as a master conman who can also invade your dreams?
Inara Serra from Serenity: It's already been established that there's more to her than meets the eye, and fans are still clamoring for more stories from the Firefly-verse. Why not put Inara front and center for a while?
