It’s been a long time since we’ve seen any new Dragon Ball Z, but the wait will be over soon (assuming you’re in the right part of the world).
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is set for an IMAX release in Japan on March 30, and any Dragon Ball fan can imagine how cool that anime insanity will look on an IMAX screen. This marks the first new film for the franchise in 17 years.
Here’s the official press release, which reveals where the new film fits in the series canon:
[Creator Akira] Toriyama, highly influential in manga animation and known for his playful, influential storytelling and distinctive art style, has been involved with the development of the screenplay and the production for this latest feature. He has delivered a completely new original story that is focused on the period between the "Z" and "GT" Dragon Ball animated series – or, more specifically, between installments 517 and 518 of the Dragon Ball comic book series, filling the 10-year story lapse after Demon Boo is defeated.
Check out the trailer below: Sadly, the film still doesn’t have a U.S. release date, but it’s doubtful we’ll be lucky enough to get it in IMAX anywhere outside of Japan. But we can dream.
