Carrie Fisher hospitalized after bipolar disorder-related incident

Carrie Fisher was briefly hospitalized recently after an incident on a cruise ship reportedly linked to her bipolar disorder.

Fisher was booked as a "surprise celebrity guest" on board the Holland America Eurodam cruise ship in the Carribean last week, and reportedly began to act strange while singing. Video of the incident showed Fisher slurring words and cleaning up after a dog on stage, leading some to believe she was drunk.

Following the cruise Fisher checked into a medical facility, and a representative for her said the incident actually stemmed from bipolar disorder.

"There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder," her rep said to TMZ. "She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now."

Fisher has long been outspoken about both her addiction issues and her struggles with bipolar disorder, making high-profile appearances with the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Diane Sawyer to discuss her condition and writing two memoirs that chronicle her struggles. We wish her the best.
