Confused by that Green Lantern ending? Sinestro explains it all

Apparently a number of people found the ending to the Green Lantern movie confusing, so Sinestro himself has come forward to clear it up.

Speaking with MTV, British actor Mark Strong -- who many people feel was the best thing about the 2011 box-office flop starring Ryan Reynolds -- has spoken out about the hidden scene that unspooled during the film's end credits (spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the picture).

With the credits rolling, the movie took a cue from the Marvel films and added a surprise scene in which Sinestro finds a yellow power ring and puts it on. It seems that average moviegoers -- the few who saw the picture, anyway -- had no idea what the hell this was all supposed to mean.

Strong explained, "A lot of people seemed to be confused by him putting on the ring at the end of the movie. They felt that it came out of nowhere. All it was, during the credits, there was a sequence which was a nod to where the trilogy was intending to head to. It wasn’t ever meant to be part of the story of the first film."

For diehard Green Lantern comic-book fans, of course, this was a clear setup for Sinestro, corrupted by the yellow power, to break away from the Green Lanterns and start his own evil army: the Sinestro Corps.

This might have been an exciting path to take for Green Lantern 2, but the poor box-office returns of the first movie pretty much drained all the power out of that idea.

"I would be surprised if they made a second one, because I’ve heard nothing about it in quite a while now," Strong added. "What that standalone moment was intended to relate to was where the movies were headed, and that, for me, would have been very exciting, because the putting on of the ring and the whole suit turning yellow would have been great fun."

Green Lantern 2 may be a dead issue for now, but if Man of Steel takes off at the box office this summer, the push may become stronger for that Justice League movie to get back off the mat again. And if it does, well, we're sure that Sinestro could make a formidable enemy either instead of or alongside Darkseid.

Do you think there should be a Green Lantern 2 that incorporates the Sinestro Corps? Or should Sinestro maybe get a crack at a future Justice League film?
