Annnd the rumor mill is at it again. Apparently, the BBC bosses are hard at work to get ALL former Doctors for that Who 50th-anniversary bash.
Mind you (and before we go on), the story comes from The Mirror, so we must take it with a little grain of salt.
So the story is that all surviving actors are set to return for cameo roles in the eagerly anticipated 3D special episode to celebrate Doctor Who’s big 5.0 bash.
The BBC bosses also want to include the first three Doctors, played by William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, who have since died. They would bring them back with the use of CGI and stock footage.
As for the other former Time Lords, Tom Baker, who’s 79, Peter Davison, who’s 61, Colin Baker, who’s 69, Sylvester McCoy, also 69, Paul McGann, who’s 53, Christopher Eccleston, who’s 48, and David Tennant, who’s 41, they are “believed” to have agreed to come back and take part in the special with a 30-year-old Matt Smith.
The story goes that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has claimed this week that “getting the other Doctors involved would be very fitting for the anniversary episode, wouldn’t it?”
However, we all know that Steven Moffat's a really wily man who may or may not be lying (like the Doctor).
The Mirror also reports (and this is VERY unlikely, if you ask us) that the 50th anniversary would also serve as a departure for Matt Smith—who’s soon to be filming How to Catch a Monster for Ryan Gosling—and introduce a regenerated 12th Doctor.
Matt Smith has previously said, “How amazing would it be to see Tom Baker? Can you imagine seeing him back in the scarf? That would be so cool.”
“Paul McGann is a great Doctor—I say bring back Chris and Dave too.”
We can place our bets on a returning Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and perhaps even on the Ninth Time Lord (Chris Eccleston) and (this is wishful thinking but could definitely happen) even on Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor. But as for the other doctors, this really remains up in the air.
So do you guys believe the Mirror's story and that the BBC bosses are working hard to get ALL previous Doctors in Doctor Who's 50th-annniversary special?
