Last we heard, actress Hayley Atwell, who played Capt. America’s love Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, wasn’t coming back for its sequel.
Now it seems that the actress may make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier after all!
In an interview with Collider, actor Stanley Tucci, who played Dr. Abraham Erskine in the first film, confirmed that his character wasn’t coming back in the sequel, since the guy was killed in the first film.
I loved making that movie. I had a great time. I really like Joe Johnston. I think he’s a wonderful director. I also love the look of the film, and the tone of the film, and the character was great. I was thrilled to be able to play that. I was so sad that I died because I wanted to come back and do another one.
Yes, but technically he could come back through the use of flashbacks, right? Maybe, but the actor stated that he’s not been asked to return: “No, they haven’t [asked], unfortunately. I’m really sad.”
Though Tucci hasn't been asked to return, it would appear, however, that Atwell has been asked. “I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene,” he revealed.
So does that mean that Peggy Carter WILL indeed make a comeback in The Winter Soldier? Looks pretty much like it, even though the actress herself has previously denied any involvement in the sequel.
As for the new and very coveted role of the female lead in Captain America's second outing, it has recently gone to Revenge actress Emily VanCamp, who will probably be playing Sharon Carter, Peggy’s niece (or rather, great-niece would be more appropriate) and our good ol' Cap's new love interest. It's all about keeping it in the family, right?
Returning to Captain America: The Winter Soldier are Chris Evans as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola.
Are you excited about Hayley Atwell's return as Peggy Carter, even though she'll only appear in flashbacks?
