Singer explains why Halle Berry may not be in Days of Future Past

After taking the reins of X-Men: Days of Future Past, it looked like director Bryan Singer might get the entire old X-Men gang back together. But apparently one of the original trilogy’s biggest stars might not fit into the big crossover puzzle.

The upcoming sequel bridges the continuity between the First Class prequel and the modern-day X-Men trilogy, but Singer says Halle Berry (Storm) may not get invited back for the big reunion. So why?

Despite an expansive cast, Singer said he’s not just bringing back old mutants for the heck of it. Every character fits into the equation, and Singer said he hasn’t figured out just yet if there’s a meaningful reason to have Storm fly into the time-traveling epic.

Here’s what Singer told MTV about the casting situation:

"I can't say. I don't know yet. And it's not necessarily a deal making aspect at all. I want to make sure it'll make sense. I don't want to say who the protagonists are yet, or talk about that yet, but I will say that every character has a very important function in the story. The story is designed and catered to the combined cast. It's not just throwing in people to occupy the screen, occupy the billboards.”

The already massive cast includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore. But a few more could pop in before this thing actually goes before the cameras.

Are you holding out hope that Berry gets an invite, or do you think the cast is big enough as it is?
