The Desolation gets closer in 15 dramatic new pics from The Hobbit 2

If you just can't get enough of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug promotional materials, today's your lucky day.

Over the last few months we've been positively saturated with posters, trailers, tie-in Denny's menus, banners on the sides of planes, TV spots, toy advertisements and basically every other kind of marketing you can think of, all of it letting us know that the next Middle-earth megaflick from director Peter Jackson will hit theaters on Dec. 13. Even the most die-hard of fans have to be feeling a little bit overwhelmed right about now ... so why not just press on and look at even more promotional images for the second Hobbit flick, right? What have we got to lose?

But seriously, if you've been looking forward to the flick, these images are certain to add to your anticipation of what looks to be a very eventful adventure. We've got Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Thorin (Richard Armitage) and company battling their way to the Lonely Mountain. We've got Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) facing down a new threat that's encroaching on their woodland home. We've got Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) joining in the adventure. We've got Lake-town. We've got a cave of gold. We've got barrels floating down a river. We've got evil spiders. And we've got Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Radagast (Sylvester McCoy) entering the ruined fortress of Dol Guldur to battle the Necromancer, only to find that something worse awaits them.

It's a lot of story to get through, and it's only the second movie. So, to help us get better acquainted with what we're about to see, Warner Bros. and MGM have just released more than 30 new images from the film, featuring everything we described above and more. We picked 15 of our favorites and dropped them in the gallery below, but you can see the rest by heading over to visit our friends at ComingSoon

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens Dec. 13. That's only 10 days away, but we haven't seen the last of this mammoth marketing machine, so stay tuned.
