Ever since the series launched, fans have been wondering how Joss Whedon’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might tie in to new Marvel films coming down the pike. Now we know — and it sounds like fans of the show will definitely need to check out Thor: The Dark World this weekend.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the upcoming Nov. 19 episode “The Well” will cross over with the new Thor sequel, opening Nov. 8. But don’t get too excited — it doesn’t sound like we’ll actually get to see any actual cast members from the Thor flick, just some connective tissue within the storylines.
Here’s the episode’s official description:
In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces–one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team.
Though no guest stars have been announced to tie it together, it wouldn’t be the first time Whedon and company have snuck in a nice cameo (see: Samuel L. Jackson) without fans catching wind of it. Of course, Thor is still under the impression that Coulson is dead, so that could be a little awkward. So, yeah, that’s a pretty good reason to keep things broken up.
Depending on how the episode plays out, it wouldn’t be the first time the series has touched on a new plot point from the film universe, as the Extremis tech from Iron Man 3 has showed up in a recurring small-screen storyline. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if they can make it work organically, and not just an “easter egg hunt,” as Whedon calls it.
What do you think? Are you glad the series is tying in so closely with the new Marvel releases, or would you like to see the series develop some more breathing room?
